Tinnitus Awareness Week 2011, Specialist Tinnitus Solicitors Support!

On 4th February 2011 the British Tinnitus Association launches Tinnitus Awareness Week 2011. The week aims to build on the success of last year’s campaign which focused on the impact of exposure to loud music and how it can cause tinnitus and hearing loss.
Tinnitus is a condition by which the sufferer experiences the sensation of hearing a noise in the absence of any external sound. The noise can be any sound but most commonly is reported as a ringing, whistling or buzzing. Tinnitus can be extremely distressing to the sufferer, causing problems with concentration and sleep.
There is currently no cure for tinnitus, although researchers are closer than they have ever been to developing one (link to other article). However, there are a number of ways to manage tinnitus, minimising its intrusion on everyday life. Changes to diet, increasing exercise and relaxation techniques can help improve tinnitus symptoms, while listening to music can distract from tinnitus noises, although prolonged exposure to high volumes can make tinnitus symptoms worse.
Tinnitus Awareness Week aims to encourage better tinnitus awareness among the general public. Many people are under the impression that tinnitus is a condition that only affects the elderly but it can affect any age and is most commonly linked to prolonged or frequent exposure to loud noise. Events to promote the awareness week will be aimed at all ages and will focus on people who are exposed to loud music and noise whether at home, work, public concerts or in bars and clubs.
British Tinnitus Ambassador, DJ Eddy Temple-Morris is supporting the awareness week. He knows all too well how hard tinnitus can be to cope with as he has suffered with the condition himself for the last 10 years. He is keen to alert people as to the dangers of exposure to loud noise and ways people can prevent tinnitus. Due to advances in technology, wearing hearing protection doesn’t have to spoil enjoyment of music and Eddy now carries hearing protection with him everywhere he goes.
With 10% of the UK’s population experiencing tinnitus symptoms it is important to spread knowledge and awareness to help prevent further people suffering with this condition.
