Successful claim for hearing loss and tinnitus
We have recently settled a claim for a client who sustained hearing loss and tinnitus as a result of exposure to excessive noise when he worked for the Forestry Commission.
Our client worked for the Forestry Commission for nearly 20 years. During this time he worked as a Tree Feller using chainsaws and timber jacks.
Our client was exposed to extremely high levels of noise such that he would have to shout to be heard by anyone near to him.
Despite the extremely high levels of noise, our client was only ever provided with cotton wool or entirely inadequate plastic earplugs by his employer until the end of his employment when he was provided with earmuffs.
As a result of his noise exposure, our client unfortunately sustained hearing loss and tinnitus.
We were able to successfully pursue our client’s claim for noise induced hearing loss compensation. We obtained an admission of liability from the Defendant and we arranged for our client to be examined by an independent medical expert.
The medical expert confirmed that our client’s hearing loss and tinnitus was caused by his exposure to excessive noise.
We recovered a total of £14,000 in noise induced hearing compensation for our client and were able to agree a settlement of our client’s claim less than five months after he first instructed us.
If you have worked with chainsaws or timber jacks or indeed in any other noisy environment and you have hearing loss or tinnitus then these may have been caused by your exposure to noise.
