Former nuclear laboratory workers found to have hearing loss
A report in the United States has found that hearing loss is the most common disorder among former nuclear laboratory workers in that country.
The Former Workers Screening Programme has indicated that 60% of former nuclear laboratory workers employed by the US Department of Energy are experiencing hearing loss caused by noise.
The workers screened had previously worked in the nuclear industry in laboratory positions, electricity production in nuclear power stations and as construction workers at nuclear power stations.
The report found that, of nearly three quarters of the sites tested, more than half of the people screened had noise induced hearing loss.
In the US former nuclear industry workers are eligible for free health screenings on a regular basis to ensure that they are not suffering from work related health effects. In addition to noise, such workers might potentially have been exposed to radiation, beryllium, lasers or solvents.
At What’s My Deafness Claim Worth our specialist industrial deafness solicitors have pursued a number of successful claims previously for workers employed at UK nuclear power stations and at other types of power generating sites. Typically, we have pursued claims for construction workers who have been exposed to high levels of noise when working on power stations and nuclear facilities during their construction or during renovation or maintenance works.
If you have been exposed to high levels of noise in the nuclear industry or in other types of power generation or in any other form of employment and you now suffer from noise induced hearing loss or tinnitus then you may be entitled to claim compensation.
