£20,000 compensation recovered for hearing loss and tinnitus
What’s My Deafness Claim Worth was instructed to pursue a claim for noise induced hearing loss compensation for Mr B who was exposed to excessive noise whilst working for Dunlop Semtex Limited.
Mr B joined the company at the age of 15, as an apprentice floor fitter. He was initially based in Fort Dunlop but later moved to Chester Road. After completing his apprenticeship Mr B stayed on at the company as a fully trained floor fitter.
His work required him to take up and lay flooring. He used various tools and machinery, depending on the type of flooring he was working on. Throughout his employment Mr B used kango drills, sledgehammers, bolsters, stapling machines, mallets, grooving out machines, welders and sanders.
The noise levels throughout the working day were such that Mr B had to shout when communicating with colleagues working close to him.
Mr B suffered with hearing loss and tinnitus, a buzzing or ringing in his ears. His hearing loss caused him to suffer with problems in social situations and he had to have the television volume louder than others had home liked. He wore two hearing aids. Mr B also found the tinnitus to be problematic, stopping him from getting to sleep at night. To try and combat this, Mr B used a pillow with intergrated speakers to try and distract from his tinnitus.
Although Court proceedings were issued in the case, the hearing loss claim settled without Mr B having to go to Court.
Due to the severity of his hearing problems, Mr B was awarded £20,000 in hearing loss compensation.
